so, while i'm not going through "the" change, i am going through "a" change.  change of taste, change of attitude, change of heart....xanga, unfortunately, is out of step with my change.  i'll still keep my account and check in as i've met some pretty stellar people on here and you just can't give that up.  you can catch me here:

www.craftynerdmoni.blogspot.com

fun filled days of musings, fashion, knitting and music.....basically what i do here.  but with progress bars and links to lots of fun stuff and, you know...free (i've got big trips coming up...free is important).
toodles Xanga....it's been a slice...

may i take a quick moment and say how happy i am that it is the weekend and that we (canadian prairies) have momentarily broken out of our cold snap?  thank you!  it's good to be able to enjoy your weekend...do those errands that include grocery shopping so one can actually cook meals and not live off of condensed soup.oh,
oh, and we have a festival of culture goin' on called Winter Festival and it's basically a bunch of community centres around town that host different cultures and you go wait in line, wait in line some more, eat, drink and then hop to the next pavillion.  i went for the first time last night to the French Canadian pavillion....listened to some good fiddle music, ate some tortiere de viande, soup au pois, un crepe.  what was weird was they sold Toblerone bars at the cash register.  I thought toblerone was swiss.....
So, should be a good weekend.  i'll go be German for a bit, Chinese, Ukrainian, Metis and we'll see what else!

i'm lovin' the not-so-tweedy mittens i finished for my buddy.  get to start my Chevalier mittens.  Here's what they will hopefully look like...

and just as equally funky, fresh.

the only thing that beats waking up early and looking outside while drinking a cup of freshly brewed coffee and momentarily pretending that you are one of the lucky ones that don't have to venture out in -50 C weather would be not actually having to venture out in -50 C weather.
but this is a damn good cup of coffee.
a friend and i went to the ballet last night.  Royal Winnipeg Ballet does a prairie tour and my place of employment is a major sponsor, so we had a draw for tickets and i won a pair.  it was Carmen and it was lovely.  i like to think i'm a cultured person - i do opera, ballet, poetry readings, etc.  but there are times when my mind wanders.  for example, there was a couple of "fight scenes" in this piece and i couldn't help but think, "wouldn't it be great if violence in the world was ballet violence?" You would see clips on the news of two guys duking it out ballet-style and in the background you would see a mini orchestra feverishly playing the accompaniment.  I had to bite my lip so i wouldn't laugh.

i am now finished my not-so-tweedy mittens and i will upload pics this weekend.  they are very soft and comfy and my friend will love them, i'm sure.  next up is the chevalier mitten which is a Finnish cable mitten design that looks challenging enough without being off-putting.  exactly how i like my knitting patterns.
i'm loving this whole knitting community on Ravelry.  last.fm has a ravelry group so we all geek out on music.  that is another addiction - last.fm.  as a former music store employee, it's awesome.  you have charts comparing your listening habits and you can go back to former charts to see what you were listening to a lot.  it's like a music scrapbook.  i can't get enough of that stuff.

just once

i crawled out from under my rock and got a computer and an internet connection all in one week.  this means i can blog more frequently and listen to music while i do it AND not have to keep looking over my shoulder at work so i don't get fired.
good times.
this week was a roller coaster ride.  i ended up getting so frustrated, i got really stressed and then i got really sick.  i'm not a fan of getting sick.  i'm not going to lie - it's pretty pathetic.  imagine a 30 year old woman sitting on her bathroom floor cryin' for her mama while she's sick in the toilet.  not cool.
so, i spent my days sleeping, knitting, barfing and watching Pushing Daisies and Once online.  i love that movie, i do.  the soundtrack is amazing (i like The Frames, so it was a given that i would enjoy it) and the story is heartbreaking because it's all too familiar.  what do you pursue and what do you let go and does the hurt ever go away?  more importantly, when do you ever stop thinking about it?  do you?  it seems no matter where i go, where i live, or how i fill my time that...that "thing"...that nagging feeling or that lump in the back of your throat or that anger you feel at yourself because you're such an insecure and scared fool that you'll never take the steps or put the words together properly to say what you need to say.  you have to be careful, so you write a letter and save it.  you read it the next day and see how desperate you are.  so you write another and do the same thing.  no letter is good enough.  no words are the right words.
it's a good friggin' movie.
-------
i've nearly finished my second pair of mittens for the Mitten-A-Month knit-a-long on Ravelry.  they're out of Marisol Sulka which is a nice think silk wool for Canadian prairie winters!  they're part of a birthday gift for a friend.  he'll be getting a pair of lounging bamboo socks with them.  i'm liking the whole Ravelry thing.  interesting people and loads of free patterns and plenty of people to help you out if you're looking for wool or patterns or help on techniques.  plus, it's all in one spot, so you don't need a bunch of different sites to look at.

goin' for it

i work in insurance.  i'm mostly a typist, but i also do clerical duties such as filing, operating the switchboard ("please hold, i'll connect you"), cancelling policies and issuing payments to various peeps.  anyways...for various boring grown up reasons, i'm taking my General Insurance Essentials course and can i just say...daaaaaaaaamn is it boring.  i welcome distractions.  *cough*scrabbulous*cough*

freakin' job security.

on a much lighter note, i've completed one of my monkey socks and ran out of wool, so this gives me a great reason to shop online for some more wool and buy the lorna's laces wool i need for the argyle socks from a couple of past knit.1 mags.  they were freakin' cute and you can't go wrong with argyle.  try...you just can't.

ps: I miss you Pushing Daisies
